Northridge Music began life
as Village Music in old Fair Oaks in 1967.
The founder was Bill Sheehan a former Aerojet engineer. The
name was changed when the business was moved to the Northridge
Shopping Center on San Juan Avenue and Sunset in Fair Oaks.
In early 1972 the business was purchased by Laurie
and Joe Teresi. At that time the store was 1500 square feet.
The inventory mix was approximately half guitar and related
items and half school band instruments. The early concentration
was in the school band and the sheet music areas. Laurie was
a successful piano teacher with over 50 students and naturally
she worked to develop the piano music department. Joe’s
background had been in public school music so he headed up
that part of the business.
In 1976 the business was moved to a larger space in the same
shopping center (2500 square feet). More attention was paid
to the guitar department and the percussion departments. During
this era, the guitar sales staff was expanded to include Mark
Thompson and Chris Teresi and Melinda (Teresi) Frost who began
as a sales clerk and bookkeeper. As the business continued
to grow, it became evident that another move would soon be
needed.
In June of 1981 Northridge Music moved to Citrus Heights;
the new location was the corner of San Juan and Greenback
Lane. The new store was 3100 square feet. It included a large
repair shop as well as 6 teaching studios. This location was
expanded to 5200 square feet in 1989. Along the way Greg
Burch joined us as a drum teacher and Scott Mandeville took
over the management of our repair shop. It was during this
era that Chris took over as the manager of the guitar and
amp departments. We continued to grow and in 1997 we
moved into our current building (8000 square feet). We
currently have 9 teaching Studios; a 1000 square foot sound
demonstration room; and an expanded repair department. The
current Northridge Music is home to 24 employees and 21 private
music teachers.
Northridge Music has been owned and managed by the Teresi
family since 1972. We gratefully thank the Sacramento community
that has continued to patronize our enterprise and hope that
we can continue to justify the confidence you have had in
us.
